San Antonio and Hill Country Balance Disorder Testing

Treating Symptoms of Vertigo & Dizziness

Occasional dizziness or imbalance is not usually a cause for concern. However, if you are regularly experiencing difficulty balancing, vertigo, and dizziness, your risk of injuring yourself drastically increases. You may find yourself unable to perform the daily tasks you once did with ease. If you are having these kinds of difficulties, our San Antonio and Hill Country audiologists at Associates of Audiology may recommend performing a balance evaluation to diagnose a balance disorder.

Balance Testing & Diagnosing Balance Disorders

The first step in diagnosing a balance disorder is to perform a balance evaluation, also known as a VNG (videonystagmography) balance evaluation. This is a series of tests performed to evaluate the health of your central motor function and the inner ear. We use this test to determine the cause of your balance, dizziness, or vertigo issues, which allows us to provide you with a viable treatment option.

The tests which may be performed during VNG testing include:

  • Ocular mobility
  • Optokinetic nystagmus
  • Positional nystagmus
  • Caloric testing
  • Diagnostic hearing evaluation
  • Videonystagmography
  • Voluntary eye movement testing
  • Auditory brainstem response
  • Computerized dynamic posturography
